Purpose Over Profits: Why We Started Over and Chose to Soar
There’s something magical about starting fresh — terrifying, but magical.
When I made the decision to walk away from Oh My Aroma, a business that was ticking all the boxes on paper, it wasn’t because it wasn’t working… it was because it no longer felt like me. It stopped feeling like mine. What once gave me joy started to feel like a compromise.
The wax melts flew off the shelves. But deep down, I knew I wanted more — not more sales, but more substance.
From Fragrance to Feeling
When I first started my home fragrance journey, I was following a trend. Wax melts, fruity fragrances, sweet scents that filled a room in minutes — they were everywhere. And I loved what I did… at first.
I'm currently selling the remaining stock from Oh My Aroma — and I want to be fully transparent about why I'm moving on from it.
Back then, I was working with synthetic fragrance oils in their undiluted form. That’s very different from how most people experience them at home, but behind the scenes, it's a different story. Prolonged exposure while making products took a toll on me. I began noticing headaches, fatigue, and just a general sense that something wasn't right.
Then came the mica. The sparkle, the shimmer — it was everywhere. It followed the trends, and yes, it looked beautiful. But the day I opened a new pot and saw that cloud of glitter rise into the air, I knew something was off. Even wearing a mask, I’d find myself blowing fine, coloured powder out of my nose afterwards. I was still ingesting it — it was unavoidable. That was going into my lungs, settling on my surfaces, and my children were being exposed too. It made me pause. If it made me feel this way, how could I keep making it?
(Disclaimer: When used in finished wax melts and burned safely in a warmer, mica and fragrance oils are generally considered safe in small quantities. This was my personal experience with handling them in large amounts during production.)
It was enough for me to realise that I needed a change — for my health, my family’s wellbeing, and for my peace of mind.
A New Nest, Built With Purpose
The Cosy Bird is so much more than a rebrand. It’s a complete shift — in mindset, in values, in how I work and why I work.
We only use essential oils in our blends now — no synthetics, no shortcuts. Every candle, diffuser, or room spray is made with care, using coconut & rapeseed wax and ingredients chosen for their purity and therapeutic benefits.
Yes, it costs more. Yes, it takes longer. And yes, it's worth every second.
I’m a perfectionist by nature (probably to my own detriment sometimes), but I truly believe in doing things properly. If I wouldn’t use it around my kids, in my home, or on my skin, I won’t sell it.
That’s the standard. No compromises.
Family First, Always
I’m a businesswoman, but I’m a mum first. And everything about The Cosy Bird is built on that foundation — creating a warm, safe, and calm home environment, using products that support your wellbeing instead of harming it.
My husband, Stephen, has always supported my big ideas (even the chaotic ones), and our kids are growing up watching what it means to follow your passion, trust your instincts, and work hard. That’s what this is really about for me — showing them that you can do big things, even from your kitchen table.
What We’re Building
Right now, The Cosy Bird is in its early stages — but the vision is huge. We're dreaming of more than candles and oils. We're dreaming of:
🌿 Cosy Kids, our children's charity project — keeping little ones warm through community support.
🎁 Eco-conscious gift boxes — for individuals and businesses who want to show they care, ethically.
📚 The Cosy Blog — a space for connection, updates, and honesty.
🎙️ Cosy Conversations Podcast — coming soon, with chats from our nest to yours.
✨ And even more cosy essentials, from sustainable cleaning products to sleepwear and beyond.
It’s daunting, of course. But I’ve never been more excited.
Purpose Over Profits
This journey has already taught me so much: that heart matters more than hype, and that small businesses can lead the way in conscious, considered living.
It’s not about mass production, or undercutting the market, or chasing the fastest trend. It’s about people. Purpose. Impact.
We’re doing this the long, slow, meaningful way — and we’re inviting you along for the flight.
Because when you choose The Cosy Bird, you’re not just buying a candle. You’re supporting a dream. You’re investing in health. You’re joining a movement of people who believe that small changes make a big difference.
From our nest to yours, thank you for being here.
If you’ve made it this far, I’d love to hear from you.
