Chaos, Charity Bags & Chickens? Keeping Up with the Cosy Bird

You know that feeling when the holidays are over, the kids are back at school, and you think, "Ahh… now I can get back into a routine…” but then your brain says, "Actually, let’s completely rearrange the house, overhaul the garden, rethink our food supply, and maybe even look into livestock?"

Yeah. That’s me right now.

Half term was lovely — chaotic and exhausting in all the usual ways — but I really enjoyed it. Now that the house is quiet again, I’m trying to get back into a rhythm. The only problem? I don’t function unless the house is tidy tidy. So, naturally, my current hyperfocus is sorting out the post-Easter madness and trying to reclaim some calm.

We’re packing away winter coats, welcoming the sunshine, and I’m surrounded by charity bags. The big question: do I just donate, or do I sell everything on Vinted? Is the £3 per item worth the time it takes to list, post, track and message? What is my time really worth?

And while we’re on the topic of distractions… social media.
Since changing the direction of my business — from synthetic fragrance to essential oils, from trend-led to purpose-led — my algorithm has completely changed too. It’s like I’ve fallen down an entirely new rabbit hole, and now it’s full of homesteaders, toxin-free living, and women building their dream businesses while growing veg and owning chickens. Honestly? It’s inspiring. It’s also a lot.

So now I’m asking:
Chickens… or goats? Ducks?
Can I grow enough veg to reduce what I buy in the supermarket?
Should I start composting?
Do I need to redo the whole garden space before we even sell this house?

So, to keep my head clear, we’ve decided to shift focus this week… to the garden!

We want to create a space where the kids can run around and I can drink my coffee in peace while pretending I’ve got it all together. Realistically though, it’s more “chaotic cottage-core on a budget” than picture-perfect Pinterest board.

So we've got a lovely friend who’s managed to acquire lots of pallets for us (thank you, legend!). The plan? A raised seating area where we can BBQ, unwind, and let the chaos unfold in a more contained space. We're dreaming of monkey bars and calisthenics equipment for the kids — get that energy OUT — and raised beds around the borders full of fruit and veg.

Will it be a Pinterest-worthy haven? Maybe not.
Will it be ours, made with love, scraps, and probably a few arguments along the way? Absolutely.

Would you be interested in seeing the process?
Shall I pop some pics up on Cosy Bird Stories?

Let me know in the comments below — and thank you (truly) for reading my ramblings. Tell me I’m not alone in this beautiful chaos?

Even with The Cosy Bird keeping me busy, my brain is still spinning plates. My brain  doesn’t switch off — it zooms in on details, jumps to the next idea before the first is done, and pushes me into these beautifully chaotic spirals of creativity and productivity… and sometimes overwhelm. But that’s part of who I am. And honestly, it’s part of what makes The Cosy Bird what it is.

Because this brand was never meant to be perfect.
It was meant to be real.

This isn’t just a business — it’s a journey. A homegrown brand rooted in honesty, comfort, and wellbeing. We’re here to create products that feel good in your home and in your heart. Candles that don’t compromise your health. Scents that lift your mood. And stories you can connect to.

We want to build a community. A place where we can share behind the scenes, laugh about the chaos, and lift each other up. Whether it’s about ditching synthetic products, finding joy in small rituals, or wondering if chickens are a step too far — I want this blog to be a space where you feel welcome.

So if you’ve ever felt the same — overwhelmed by the noise, distracted by a million tabs open in your mind, but still showing up for what matters most — you’re in the right place.

Welcome to the nest. 🕊️
Let’s grow something beautiful — together.

Love it, yes relate to it all. I like to put things on Vinted, store it in my cupboard for ages then in the end take it to the charity shop anyway! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Because I apparently have loads of free time!! Very into bread baking now, thinking I’ll stock the freezer up, who we kidding? It just gets eaten! 🤣 I’m not quite there with the chickens or the goats though, kids are enough! Xx
